Love Will Overcome

Note: This is a story about a girl who is visually challenged. She is a self-conscious girl who meets a wrestler who shows her that she has worth. In fact, this girl has a lot of me in her. I am visually challenged and still am self-conscious about who I am. I hope all who read will enjoy.
Special Note: This story is absolutely fictional. I don’t own Paul Levesque or any of the wrestlers portrayed here. Jenna Mitchell is purely fictional.
Jenna pushed her thick glasses up on to her nose. She waited in a long line to get an autographed photo from her favorite wrestler, Hunter Hearst Helmsley. She self-consciously brushed down her short skirt and wished she hadn’t worn her wedgie heels. She towered above everyone it seemed.
In all actuality, she only stood five foot, seven inches in bare feet. Her figure was ok. She definitely wasn’t mistaken for a model. Her hair was brown and had a wave to it. Her eyes were blue.
Slowly, the line moved closer to the table where Hunter, Paul Levesque, was sitting. Jenna fidgeted and again pushed up her glasses more from nerves than necessity. Finally, she reached the table. She tried to say something to the wrestler, but couldn’t find the words. The tears gathered in her eyes, but she kept them from falling.
Paul Levesque looked up and saw the young woman before him. He immediately realized she was not the usual wrestling fan. He saw something, he wasn’t sure what, that attracted him to her. He grabbed a photo of himself and signed in larger letters than normal (he saw the thick glasses) and handed it to Jenna with a disarming smile. Jenna smiled back and read what he had written.
Meet me at the coffee shop in the
Radisson hotel at 38th and Elm Street.
Jenna glanced up and looked at the wrestler with a question in her blue eyes. Her hand that held the photo shook slightly.
“Will you?” He asked quietly.
“Y-yes, I’d like to but I don’t drive.” Jenna hesitated.
“Meet me at the commentator’s table after the show then. I’ll make sure you get a ride home.” Paul said still speaking so only she heard him.
“All right.” Jenna answered with a shaky smile.
The show was terrific as always. Jenna was fortunate that she had a front row seat. She would never have seen anything that was going on in the ring otherwise. She rooted for her favorite wrestlers, especially Hunter. He winked down at her after he entered the ring. She blushed. All in all, it was a great evening.
Once the show was over, Jenna sat down and waited as the arena emptied. Paul must have let the security know she would be waiting because they left her alone. She would have climbed the guardrail, but didn’t want to be unladylike. Besides, there was the fact that she tended to be a bit clumsy when she wanted to be most graceful.
Paul watched Jenna as she waited for him. He could almost read her thoughts. She was so self-conscious of anything she did. He walked up to her from the wrestler’s side of the guardrail. He held out his hand to her. She stood to her feet and placed her hand in his. He helped her over the rail and kept her hand in his as they walked up the ramp and into the back.
“Oh dear.” Jenna whispered as she slowed and became reluctant to go into the wrestler’s area.
“It’s all right…by the way, what is your name?” Paul asked with a grin and a gentle tug on her hand.
“My name is Jenna Mitchell.” She answered as she allowed Paul to lead her onward.
“Jenna, it’s great to meet you. We can talk once we get to the coffee shop.” He said knowing there were questions she wanted to ask him.
As they walked towards the exit, Paul introduced her to many of the wrestlers and employees of the WWE. All of Paul’s co-workers immediately noticed the deference he accorded the young woman who was with him. They knew it wouldn’t be long before Paul was hooked hook, line and sinker by the shy woman he had introduced them to.
At the hotel, Paul led Jenna into the coffee shop and they sat down in a booth that was well lit and a bit farther from the other booths. Once they had ordered, Paul sat back and smiled at the young woman across from him. She smiled back shyly.
“I know you have some questions for me, Jenna.” Paul said.
“Why me?” Jenna blurted out.
“Because, when I saw you there was just something about you that attracted me to you.” He answered.
“I’m not beautiful or anything.” Jenna murmured looking down at her hands.
“You are a lovely, young woman, Jenna, inside and out.” Paul answered placing a finger under her chin and lifting it so he could look into her eyes.
“Thank you, Hunter…I’m sorry, I mean, Paul.” Jenna replied flustered at the sweet compliment.
“It’s ok. I kind of like Hunter better than Paul anyways. You can call me that if you want.” Paul said as the waiter came and set their food before them. The evening was a great success as far as Jenna was concerned. Hunter was a wonderful conversationalist. In fact, he actually got her to talk about her family and herself. The only thing she didn’t mention was her abusive father.
Hunter drove her home. She lived with her father. Her mother was dead and her older brother had a family of his own. Jenna looked up at the house and saw the lights were all out. Her father was not home yet. Hunter walked her up to the door. They made small talk. Finally, Hunter leaned towards Jenna and kissed her warmly on the lips. When he felt her respond, he took her into his arms and kissed her even more deeply.
“That was…nice.” Jenna said shyly as she played with the buttons on his leather jacket. “Yes, it was.” Hunter whispered back. “I have to go now. Will you come to the arena tomorrow as my guest?
“Yes, I would like that.”
“JENNA!!!!” Jenna’s head jerked around and there was her father standing on the steps looking livid with anger. “Get in the house now, girl.” Quickly without thought, Jenna obeyed and slid into the house and up the stairs to her room.
Hunter was stunned at the submissiveness of Jenna towards her father.
“You. Off my property. If I ever see you again, I will kill you.” Adam Mitchell stated loudly. Hunter had no doubt he meant what he said. He prayed Jenna would be ok and left reluctantly. He didn’t need to be getting into it with Jenna’s father.
After Hunter had left, Adam Mitchell beat up his daughter once again. He hit her mainly in the ribs where bruises weren’t readily seen, but definitely felt. Jenna lay on her bed sobbing quietly just knowing there were broken ribs and nothing she could do about them.
Through the night, Jenna didn’t sleep. She had finally decided that it was time to stop the abuse. She had painfully and quietly gotten to her feet and packed a small bag of the few treasures she had. When she heard her father leave the house, she waited for an hour and then went to the bus stop on the corner. She climbed on the bus and rode to the arena. Thankfully, the bus stopped not far from the entrance. When she tried to enter the building a security guard stopped her. She pleaded with him and finally asked him to find Hunter Hearst Helmsley for her. Noticing that she didn’t look well, the guard helped her to a bench and then went in search of the young wrestler. He found him and informed him of his visitor.
Immediately Hunter knew it was Jenna. He hurried to see her and found her on the ground. She wasn’t making a sound, but there were tears rolling down her cheeks. Hunter told the guard to call 911. The man ran to a nearby phone and did what Hunter had asked.
“Jenna, the ambulance is coming, honey. Just lay still.”
At the hospital, Hunter paced the length of the waiting room. He couldn’t understand why he was feeling so strongly for this girl. The two of them had immediately connected. The chemistry was deep and strong between them. It was as if they were meant for each other. Hunter had never felt like this for Joanie or Stephanie.
Shawn Michaels, Kevin Nash and Chris Jericho joined Hunter at the hospital. They had been introduced to Jenna and had liked her immediately.
“Hey, Hunter, how is she?” Shawn asked clapping the muscular wrestler on the shoulder.
“I don’t know, man. The doctor hasn’t come out and seen me yet. I’m afraid they are going to call her father.” Hunter answered sitting down and wringing his hands unconsciously.
“Her father? She looks over twenty-one to me.” Chris answered.
“She lives with her father and he did this to her.” Hunter said his fists clenching at the thought of the older man hitting Jenna.
“Excuse me, is Mr. Levesque here?”
“I’m Levesque.” Hunter said turning to the man in the white coat.
“Mr. Levesque, I’m Dr. Ames. Miss Mitchell said that I was to speak to you. She refuses to have anyone to call her father. Personally, I can’t blame her.” The doctor paused. “She can go home now. Her ribs are not broken, but are badly bruised. Mr. Levesque, don‘t take her back to her home. She has been here before with injuries and she needs a way out of that situation.” The doctor turned to walk away and turned back. “A nurse will bring Jenna out in a wheelchair. Hospital policy, you know.”
Hunter turned back to his friends with a grin. “She’s going to be fine.” The other three men just grinned at him. “What?” Hunter asked with a quizzical look.
“You have it bad, man, real bad.” Kevin said slapping the shorter wrestler on the shoulder. Hunter made no comment. He knew Kevin was right. Hunter turned when he heard two women’s voices. He was relieved to see Jenna smiling and talking to the young nurse.
He went over to her and took her hand in his. “How are you, Jen?” Hunter asked squatting down next to her.
“I’m fine, Hunter, thanks.” Jenna answered somewhat shyly lowering her eyes to their clasped hands.
“I don’t want you going back home, Jenna.” Hunter said seriously. “Where am I to go, Hunter?” Jenna asked trying to be brave. She was not going to cry no matter what.
“First of all, let’s get you some lunch, then I will take you over to the arena if you’re up to. You can lay down in my dressing room if you’re feeling tired. How’s that?” Hunter asked standing to his feet.
“Sounds good.” Jenna grinned up at him. The other three wrestlers greeted Jenna. She blushed at the rare attention. For some reason all the men seemed drawn to the shy, young woman.
Later that afternoon, Hunter and Jenna entered the arena. Jenna had formulated a plan in her mind to gain some independence. If only it would work. She and Hunter walked to his dressing room. He made her lay down while he went to work on his match with Steven Regal. Obediently, Jenna closed her eyes and waited for Hunter to leave. When he did, she waited a few more minutes, and then got up.
She straightened her skirt and blouse and brushed her hair. She pushed up her glasses and tried to be confident. Finally, she opened the door and headed down the hall. She eventually made it to Vince’s office. Hesitantly, she knocked on the door.
“Come in!” Came Vince’s voice through the door. Slowly, Jenna opened the door and stepped into Vince’s temporary office/dressing room. “May I help you?” Vince stared for a moment, then smiled. “You must be Hunter’s friend, Jenna.”
“Yes sir, I am.” Jenna answered.
“Have a seat, Jenna, and let me know what’s on your mind.” Vince said sitting down on the sofa next to her.
“Well, sir, I’m looking for a job. I love the WWE, it’s wrestlers and the excitement of being at an event. I will do most anything.” She said not quite understanding the look in Vince’s eyes.
“Well…”
“Vince! Have you seen, Jenna?” Hunter came charging into the office. “Jenna! Dang, girl! You had me scared! I didn’t know where you had gone.”
“I’m right here, Hunter.” Quickly, she stood to her feet wondering if the rumors were true about Vince being a ladies’ man. “Mr. McMahon, what do you say?”
“I say that you would make Hunter a good valet.” He answered decidedly. “Go see Marge in makeup and wardrobe. She’ll get you settled with some clothes for tonight.” He said with a smile. “I don’t want you doing anything strenuous because of your ribs. In fact, go have our trainer wrap them for you. Good luck, Jenna.”
“Thank you, Mr. McMahon.” Jenna answered excitedly.
“By the way, if you need an advance on your salary, just let me know.”
“Thank you, but I have some money to get me through.” Jenna and Hunter left Vince’s office. Hunter was quiet on the way back to his dressing room. He noted her exuberance and was amazed at the change in the girl. It made her positively beautiful. Jenna turned to Hunter.
“Are you ok with this, Hunter?”
“Of course I am. I’m just a bit concerned about you is all. I want you to be safe out there.” He said smiling genuinely down at her.
“I will be, I promise.” Jenna answered. “I want to get to wardrobe and makeup. I’ll see you later, Hunter.” Jenna reached up and kissed him softly on the cheek. Shyly, she lowered her eyes and left the room. Hunter stood staring at the door for a moment. He suddenly grinned and started humming a tune that sounded vaguely like The Wedding March.
Hours later, Jenna stood in front of a full-length mirror staring at herself in shock. Several of the divas had joined Marge and had helped in preparing Jenna for her first trip to the ring. “Oh wow!” Was all she said. “I didn’t know I could be this beautiful.” She breathed.
She stared at the pretty face that she saw in the mirror. Subtle makeup had been strategically applied to keep her innocence apparent. Her brown hair had been colored with auburn highlights and had been waved to frame her face. The divas had supplied Jenna with a start of a wardrobe. In fact, she was wearing a black tube top with Hunter’s symbol on it (this was supplied by Stephanie McMahon), a short, tight, black leather skirt and black leather, high-heeled boots.
She went to push her glasses upon her nose, but they weren’t there. She laughed. Someone had come up with contacts that were stronger than the normal. Amazingly, they worked. Jenna was thrilled and felt totally comfortable with the contacts.
Suddenly serious, she turned to the women standing around her. “Do you think Hunter will like it?” She asked in a small, worried voice.
“Honey, Hunter will love you. Be yourself, because that is apparently what he liked about you in the first place. You are a lovely girl and you are going to make it big in the WWE.” Trish Stratus, the women’s champ, said with a quick hug for Jenna.
“Thanks, Trish.” Jenna stayed with the divas until about three minutes before Hunter’s match. The divas and Jenna walked up to the curtain just as Hunter came around the corner.
“Hey, any of you divas seen Jenna?” They all giggled and shoved Jenna towards him.
“Jenna?!”
“Yes, Hunter, it’s me.” Jenna answered softly.
“Wow!” Was all Hunter could say. He couldn’t take his eyes off of the lovely, young woman.
“Hunter, you need to focus on your match.” Jenna said with a sweet smile. She turned to the divas with a wide, happy grin. The divas smiled back and went their ways secure in the thought they had just witnessed the next best couple in wrestling.
Jenna followed Hunter through the curtain not knowing what to expect. She knew Hunter’s routine, so was able to get to ringside without any mishaps.
Once Hunter had done his water spray and climbed the ropes for the fans, he grabbed the mike from Lillian Garcia and introduced his new manager, Jenna. She climbed between the ropes Hunter held for her and waved to the crowd. They applauded, but seemed unsure if she was the real thing or a trap for Hunter.
Jenna knew what was going through their minds and determined to be the best manager for Hunter she could be as long as the storyline allowed.
When Regal’s music began, Hunter held the ropes so that Jenna could climb to the floor. Since it was her first time in the spotlight and she was an absolute no name, it had been decided that Jenna would have a mini interview with Jim Ross and Jerry “The King” Lawler.
“Hello, Mr. Ross and Mr. Lawler.” Jenna said when she sat down and had her headset on.
"Welcome, Jenna, just call me JR and this is…”
“Just call me the King, baby.” Lawler said with his customary leer.
“Thank you, JR and King Jerry.”
“So, Jenna tell us about yourself. We are excited about having you with us.” JR said
“Well, I’m just a small town girl who happened to be in the right place at the right time. I met Hunter two days ago and with extenuating circumstances, Vince agreed to hire me on as Hunter’s manager. It is a great opportunity that I am willing to take on.” Jenna smiled.
Her attention was brought back to the match at a groan from the fans. She gasped when she saw Regal pull out the brass knuckles. Without thought to her ribs, Jenna yanked off her headset and went to the ring. She tried to yell at Hunter, but he didn’t hear her.
She knew Hunter was supposed to win the match, but he wouldn’t if Regal hit him with the brass knuckles. Finally, Jenna slid into the ring and grabbed Regal’s hand that held the brass knucks. He turned on her and grabbed her arm. He dropped his weapon and slapped her. With reflex reaction, Jenna slapped him back. He raised his hand again. Jenna suddenly saw her father before her and cried out. She fell to the mat and huddled there crying. As Regal went to pull her to her feet, Hunter had revived and now dealt the Brit a low blow. Regal dropped to the floor. Hunter pulled Regal to his feet and pedigreed him. He covered him and won the match.
He looked over and saw Jenna still laying on the mat crying. He went over to her and knelt down beside her. He could tell something was wrong and gently pulled her up into his arms
“It’s all right, baby. I’m here. We have fans to reassure, honey.” Hunter whispered. At that, Jenna regained her composure. She was still shaken, but fine. Hunter stood and pulled her to her feet. She threw her arms around Hunter’s neck and kissed him. The crowd went wild. With one final climbing of the ropes, Hunter and Jenna left the ring hand-in-hand.
In his dressing room, Hunter turned to Jenna. “What happened out there, Jen?” He asked unconsciously stroking the soft flesh of her arms.
“Well, Regal grabbed me and slapped me. Immediately, I slapped him back, then he raised his hand to slap me again and all of a sudden I saw my father standing there with his fist raised to hit me. I just crumpled up and lost control.” Hunter pulled her into his warm embrace. Jenna felt so safe in Hunter’s strong arms. She wanted to stay there forever.
Hunter tipped up her chin and pressed his lips to hers. Jenna slid her arms up around his neck and entangled her fingers in his blond hair. The kiss grew passionate. It left Jenna breathless.
“Wow!” Jenna whispered. “I’ve never been kissed like that before.” Hunter bent his head down and kissed her again. This time it was wild and passionate. Jenna’s hold tightened on Hunter’s neck. Her knees were weak from the mind-blowing kiss she and Hunter had just shared.
“Marry me, Jenna.” Hunter groaned between little, nipping kisses he spread down her jaw line. Jenna pulled back in stunned shock.
“M-marry you?” She whispered not sure she understood what Hunter had asked.
“I love you, Jenna. I knew from the first moment I saw you that we were meant for each other. When you’re not with me, I feel like a part of me is missing. I need you in my life, sweet Jenna.”
“Oh, Hunter.” Jenna pulled away from Hunter and stood staring at the wall. Her fondest dreams had come true in the last few days: she had met her favorite wrestler and now was a part of the WWE. Now, Hunter had asked her to marry him, MARRY him. The man of her dreams wanted her to be with him for the rest of his life. What other answer could there be for this wonderful man?
She loved him and had grown to love him immensely over the past few days. He was everything she ever wanted in a man. She whirled around to face the apprehensive wrestler.
“But, I’m just me. I’m nobody important. I have no money; I don’t have any possessions of any kind. I’m clumsy, half-blind and never went to college. I hate vegetables. I probably snore while I sleep. I’m a slob and I hate to cook.” Jenna stood panting from her little monologue.
Hunter started laughing. He sat down and had to wipe the tears from his face because he was laughing so hard. Jenna couldn’t understand what was so funny. Finally, she became frustrated and stomped her foot.
“Why are you laughing?!” She yelled.
Finally, Hunter gained control of himself and patted the seat next to him. Jenna crossed her arms and turned away. She was hurt by his reaction to her offerings of herself. Hunter caught a glimpse of a tear rolling down her cheek. Suddenly, he felt guilty at laughing at her little monologue.
“Aw, honey, I didn’t mean anything by it. I’m sorry. I just thought it was cute that you felt you had to share your bad habits with me before answering my marriage proposal. I still love you and want you to marry me.” he said getting up and going over to where Jenna stood fighting back tears. “Come here, my love.” He said tenderly pulling her into his warm embrace. He kissed the tears away and kissed her again, softly and gently this time. Jenna melted into his embrace.
“I’m sorry I made you cry.” Hunter murmured.
“Yes.” Jenna whispered against his chest.
“What?”
“I said ‘yes, I’ll marry you’.” With a shout of laughter, Hunter picked her up in his arms and swung her around, and then he let her slowly slide down his body and pulled her into an ardent kiss.
Several weeks later, Jenna bought her wedding dress with help from Trish Stratus and Tori Wilson. It was a beautiful dress. It was a white satin, floor-length gown. The bodice was snug with off-the-shoulder, capped sleeves. The waist flowed into a full skirt. Her veil was just a wreath of silk roses entwined with fake baby’s breath. The back of the veil itself hung to her waist. All in all, Jenna made a beautiful bride. She bought white hose, white, high-heeled, satin pumps. Her garter was blue. Her bouquet was a mass of different-colored roses, mostly white, of course.
In all of Jenna’s happiness there was a small presence of unhappiness. Her vision was worsening and she didn’t know what to do about her father.
Jenna had not told Hunter about her worsening vision. She didn’t want to worry him unduly. But, Hunter was not a stupid man. He noticed a difference in the way Jenna moved around. She was more hesitant to move away from him when they were in public. She also spent time walking around a new dressing room and familiarizing herself with its contents when she thought Hunter wasn’t watching. She also seemed a little withdrawn.
Hunter went to Shawn Michaels. Since Shawn had been back with the WWE Hunter had noticed a real peace in his friend’s face. He was a little curious about it, but had been hesitant to ask him.
He knew, though, that Shawn would give him an objective view of how to deal with Jenna not telling him about her worsening eyesight. He wasn’t angry with her, but he was hurt that she felt she couldn’t share with him her bad times as well as her good times.
“Hunter, you need to ask her about it. It’s too much for that girl to keep it all to herself. She needs you …and God, to lean on.” Shawn advised once Hunter had explained the situation.
Later that afternoon, before their show, Hunter approached her with what he knew.
“Jenna, honey, we need to talk.” He said grabbing her hand and steering her to the sofa.
“What’s wrong, Hunter?”
“I think I should be asking you that question.” He looked into Jenna’s sweet face. “When were you going to tell me your vision was getting worse?” He scolded gently.
“I don’t know!” Jenna cried. “I’m so scared, Hunter! I don’t know what to do. My ophthalmologist says there’s nothing he can do.” Hunter held Jenna not knowing what he could tell her or do for her.
Later, when Jenna was taking a nap before the show, Hunter walked over to Shawn Michaels’ dressing room. He knocked on the door and Shawn opened it. He motioned Hunter into the room and sat him down. “You confronted her?” Shawn asked simply. Hunter nodded. He lowered his face to his hands and started sobbing. Shawn sat down next to his friend and placed a calming hand on his shoulder. He prayed that God would allow him to show Hunter the only way to a peaceful and eternal life. He reached next to him and picked up his Bible from the table.
“Hunter, I have some things I want to talk to you about.” Shawn said calmly. Hunter looked up and stared in to Shawn’s gray eyes He waited for Shawn to continue. “About a year ago, things just didn’t seem to be going so well for Rebecca and I. Our marriage was stressed, my wrestling school wasn’t doing well and I felt that life wasn’t worth living. One evening after Becca and I had put Cameron to bed, there was a knock at the door. I answered it and there stood a couple. They were smiling and looked so peaceful. They introduced themselves as Pastor and Mrs. Reeves from Christ’s Community Church. Well, of course I was put off, but they seemed like such a nice couple something urged me to let them in and offer them some coffee.
“The four of us sat down and Pastor Reeves, without preamble, asked me if I died today do I know where I would go. I answered “Heaven”. Then, he asked me ‘How do you know?’ Well, he had me stumped. I didn’t know. I just figured if I was good enough that I would make it there eventually. He took his Bible and went through the plan of salvation with me…” At this point Shawn took his Bible and showed Hunter the **plan of salvation.
That afternoon, Shawn had the immense pleasure of leading his best friend to Christ. After praying the sinner’s prayer, Hunter looked up with tears in his eyes and a genuine smile on his face. “Wow! This is an amazing feeling!” Hunter exclaimed.
“It is, isn’t it?” Shawn said with a wide grin and tears in his eyes.
“Thanks, Shawn, for sharing your Lord with me. I guess He’s mine too now.” He hugged his friend and went to share his good news with Jenna.
Hunter sat down on the edge of the sofa and brushed Jenna’s brown hair back from her face as she slept. He leaned down and touched his lips to hers in a gentle, loving kiss. Slowly, her eyes fluttered open. She squinted a little as she gazed up into Hunter’s face. She smiled and reached up to kiss him.
“Hi.” She whispered.
“Feeling better, sweetheart?” Hunter asked.
“I am now that you’re here.” Jenna sat up and snuggled up against her fiancé.
Hunter sat back with his arms around his beloved. He held her close.
“Jenna, I had a wonderful experience this afternoon. Shawn introduced me to his God and I accepted Him into my life.”
“Shawn’s talked to me about God. I guess I always felt that I was good enough to get to Heaven, so I never really paid attention.” Jenna looked into Hunter’s face for a long moment. Everything was darker and a bit blurry, but she could still see the solid lines of his face. Slowly, she reached up her hand to his face. Almost instinctively, she allowed her fingers to wander his face and memorize him as a truly blind person would.
“Jenna, love, I want you to talk to Shawn again.” He murmured catching her hand in his and pressing it to his lips. “What he has to say will change your whole life.’
“All right, Hunter.” Jenna answered softly. She would do anything for Hunter. But, first, she wanted to watch Hunter and Shawn and see if there was a difference in their lives.
For several days, Jenna kept her ears and eyes opened when she was around Hunter and Shawn. What she heard was amazing and sounded wonderful. She longed to have this man Jesus prominent in her life. Just as Shawn and Hunter did.
It was two days before the wedding when Jenna approached Shawn. Actually, Shawn had come to her and Hunter’s dressing room looking for Hunter.
“Shawn, could-could you show me how to know your Jesus?” She whispered shyly as Shawn took her hand.
“I would love to show you the way to my Jesus, Jenna.” Shawn led her to the sofa and sat down next to her. He spelled out the plan of salvation for her simply and understandably.
Hunter had entered the room quietly when he had heard Shawn’s voice from outside of the room. He listened and then watched as his beloved went down on her knees in tears and asked the Lord Jesus into her heart.
“Oh, Shawn! I feel such peace in my heart!” Jenna exclaimed. “I can’t wait to tell Hunter.”
“You won’t have to, darling. I was here.” Hunter said with tears in his eyes. He pulled her into his arms and held her close.
It was early on the morning of their wedding day. Hunter called Jenna to find out how she was. When she answered the phone, he realized that she had been and was still crying.
“What’s the matter, Jenna?”
“I can barely see at all, Hunter. My vision is getting worse.”
“Oh, Jenna! Should we postpone the wedding?” Hunter asked sitting down on his bed.
“No!” Jenna exclaimed. “I want us to be together, Hunter.”
“All right, honey.” Hunter answered soothingly. “I’m going to send Shawn over to pick you up. He’ll take you to the church. All right?”
“All right, Hunter.” Jenna said with a relieved sigh.
“I love you, Jenna.”
“I love you, Hunter.”
Hunter hung up the phone. He rested his head in his hands. His soon-to-be wife was slowly going blind. What was he to do? Trust your Lord and Savior. Said a small voice inside.
Immediately Hunter got to his knees and prayed for Jenna and for himself as they started on their journey in life together. He stood up just as Shawn knocked and entered the room.
“Hey, man! How’s the groom?” Shawn said slapping the muscular wrestler on the shoulder.
“Jenna’s vision is worse this morning.” Hunter said.
“I’m sorry, man.” Shawn said. “Is the wedding still on?”
“Yeah.” Hunter said with a genuine smile. “She didn’t want to put it off.”
“Great girl there, Hunter.” Shawn smiled.
“I know." Hunter answered with a big grin. "Could you pick her up and take her to the church?”
“Sure! My pleasure!” Shawn said.
Shawn headed over to Hunter and Jenna’s new apartment. Jenna had been living there for a couple of weeks now getting it ready for their new life together.
Shawn knocked on the door. Surprisingly, his own wife answered the door.
“Hey, sweetheart!” Shawn exclaimed kissing his wife. “How’s the bride?”
“I’m afraid she is starting to have second thoughts. That’s what she is saying anyways. I think she is afraid to walk the aisle alone. Could you talk to her, Shawn?” Rebecca pleaded.
“Of course I will.” Shawn answered.
Shawn walked down the hall to the master bedroom. He knocked on the door and heard a muffled and teary “Come in.” Shawn opened the door and saw Jenna sitting on the end of the king-sized bed. He walked over and sat down next to her.
“What’s going on, Jen?” Shawn asked kindly putting a gentle arm around her shoulders.
“Oh, Shawn! I feel like I’m going to be a burden on Hunter. My sight is worse. I don’t want to saddle him with an invalid. I love him too much for that.” Jenna said wiping her eyes with a cotton handkerchief.
“Jenna, has Hunter complained about having to take care of you?”
“No, but…”
“But, nothing, girl. Hunter loves you more than anything. If he felt he were being burdened with you, he would let you know. Hunter absolutely and truly adores you. He loves you with every ounce of love that God has given him. In fact, he loves you more than he did before he accepted Christ.” Shawn said wisely.
“Thank you, Shawn.” Jenna said with a smile for the blond wrestler.
“You’re welcome, hon. Now, get ready so we can get to the church on time. By the way, I would be honored if you would allow me to walk you down the aisle today.”
“I would like that, Shawn, very much.”
“Great. Becca and I will drive you to the church. You have fifteen minutes.” Shawn said with a chuckle.
At the church, Jenna stood waiting for the music to begin. The small hand that was tucked in the crook of Shawn’s arm was trembling slightly. Shawn smiled down at her as he patted her hand gently.
“You ready for this, Jenna?" He asked softly.
“I love him dearly, Shawn, and I couldn’t be more ready.” She answered with a lovely smile that lit up her whole face.
At the front of the church, Hunter stood with Kevin Nash who was his best man.
“So, Hunt, you ready for this, man?” Kevin said speaking quietly.
“Oh yeah, Kev. She is the greatest girl."
The pianist began playing the Ice Castles theme. The bridesmaids walked down with the groomsmen and Trish, the maid of honor, walked down the aisle alone. Once all were down the aisle, the music paused, then The Wedding March began.
Hunter smiled as he watched Shawn and Jenna walk down the aisle. He was looking forward to a life with Jenna. He knew it would be exciting, fun and scary all at the same time.
Hunter stepped next to Jenna and took her hand in his. Trish came forward and took Jenna’s bouquet letting her know what she was doing.
Jenna turned to Hunter. She looked up into his face and was saddened by the fact that his face was all in shadows.
Hunter read her thoughts and squeezed her hands reassuringly. It didn’t matter to him that she could not see and probably would lose the sight she had. He loved her and that was all that mattered.
The preacher began the wedding ceremony. The words were felt deeply by all who were there. The preacher started the section of ceremony Jenna most feared because she knew her father.
“…If there be anyone here who objects to Paul and Jenna being wed today, speak now or forever hold your peace.” At that precise moment, the church doors slammed open. Jenna and Hunter turned to face the back of the church.
Jenna recognized the muttered cursing and the fact her father was extremely drunk.
“Oh, God! Please help me!” Hunter heard the whispered plea as Jenna sagged against him. Hunter wrapped his arms around her.
“It’s all right, baby. He’ll be gone soon.” Hunter whispered under his breath.
“Aw, there’s my sweet, little girl.” Adam Mitchell said nastily. He staggered about halfway up the aisle when Paul Wight stepped out of his pew and stood in front of the smaller man. “Move out of the way, you big galoot.” The drunken man slurred loudly. “I’m here to see my darling daughter get married to the rich, wrestling brat.” He staggered up against Paul.
Paul grabbed his shoulders to keep him from falling. Adam jerked away from the big man and staggered drunkenly and finally ended up on his face in front of Jenna and Hunter.
Jenna, having received strength from God, spoke quietly and clearly.
“I’m glad you decided to attend my wedding, father. I would have preferred that you were on time and not drunk. But things are as they are. Paul, please help my father into his appropriate seat.” Paul hauled the man to his feet. Adam pulled away and turned to Jenna and Hunter.
“I ain’t stayin’ for this fiasco. Go ahead and marry the bum. Good riddance anyways. Just remember, young man, she will always need you for something. You’ll never get rid of her.”
“Paul, get him out of here. I’ve heard enough.” Hunter said quietly. He pulled Jenna to the side and looked down into her troubled face. “Are you all right, sweetheart?” He caressed her cheek with his thumb.
“I’m fine, Hunter. All I need is you and God. I’ll probably need a good cry later, but I’m fine right now. Let’s just get married.” Jenna answered with a sweet smile for Hunter.
“You got it, sweetheart.” Once they were sure that Adam Mitchell was not coming back, Hunter and Jenna stood in front of the preacher and he continued the ceremony. They exchanged their rings and kissed. They climbed into their limo and went to the hotel where the reception was going to be held.
Trish helped Jenna hook her train to the back of the dress. It fell in lovely folds and there was no risk of Jenna tripping over it or the dress ripping.
Jenna enjoyed the reception, but she was looking forward to being alone with Hunter on their first night as a married couple.
Finally, the festivities were over and everyone was danced out. Jenna threw her specially made throw bouquet and Hunter threw Jenna’s garter. Not too many were surprised when Amy Dumas, also known as Lita, caught the bouquet and her boyfriend, Matt Hardy, caught the garter.
Hunter and Jenna said good-night all around and went upstairs to their honeymoon suite.
Inside, Hunter kissed her passionately. He showed her where things were in the room as he proceeded to love her. Finally, he picked her up and took her into the bedroom. He set her gently down on the bed and lay down beside her.
“I love you, Jenna.” Hunter murmured gazing down into her blue eyes.
“I adore you, Hunter!” Jenna breathed softly waiting for the earth-shattering kiss she knew was coming.
She arched up as Hunter’s mouth descended to hers and he sheltered her in his strong, loving arms.
