Love Comes Suddenly

Holly bent over the script working tirelessly on the different angles for the next week’s wrestling events. The Raw Brand had been down in ratings for several weeks now and Vince had personally asked her to add some twists to several of the angles.

Holly was more than willing to see what she could do. This was a job she truly enjoyed. Although, she would have loved to have more contact with the wrestlers than she did.

Dropping her pencil to the desk, Holly sat back and pushed her glasses up on to her nose. She stretched and went back to work. After another hour’s work, she was finally finished. Carefully, she placed the script in a large manila envelope and sealed it.

Holly reluctantly went to Eric Bischoff’s office. Eric wasn’t the nicest person to work for. He was always making sexual comments to her and about her. For some reason that Holly couldn’t figure, Eric didn’t like her . It was probably because she wouldn’t sleep with him.

She took a deep breath and knocked on the door.

“Come!” Eric called.

Holly opened the door and was relieved to see Vince McMahon, Stephanie McMahon and Hunter Helmsley with Eric.

“What is it, Miss Middleton?” Eric asked trying to be all professional in front of his boss.

“Mr. McMahon, I have the scripts rewritten for you, sir.” Holly said softly ignoring Bischoff and turning to her real boss with a genuine smile. As she spoke, Holly’s eyes slid to the face of Hunter Helmsley and then pulled quickly away. She blushed slightly when Hunter caught her looking at him.

“Thank you, Holly. I will look them over tonight and let you know what I think.” Vince answered with a broad grin.

“Thank you, sir.” Holly turned and hurried out of the office closing the door quietly behind her.

Hunter had watched Eric’s face when Holly had come into the room and ignored him. He had clearly been struggling to keep his cool. Hunter knew how Eric’s mind worked and Eric was livid that a lowly script writer had completely and totally disregarded him.

Hunter knew the stories that Eric had spread around about Holly Middleton. Hunter didn’t know Holly personally, but he was a good judge of character and knew she was nothing like what Eric portrayed her as. In fact, Hunter had walked in on Eric talking to Sean Morley about Holly. The things he heard were very rude. He had immediately told the men to knock it off or Vince would know what was going on.

Eric and Sean heeded Hunter’s words seriously. Hunter had weight behind his words. He was after all the boss’s daughter’s fiancé. Although since then, he and Steph had broken up and were no longer dating.

Hunter decided after having seen Eric’s reaction that it was time to say something to McMahon about the situation.

Holly went back to the office and pulled on her sweater and grabbed up her purse. She headed down to the parking garage and to her car.

Holly became a little unnerved at the lateness of the hour and the stillness of the parking area. It seemed a bit creepy to her. She hurried across the drive to her ‘69 Mustang.

She fumbled her keys and they dropped on to the ground loudly. With shaking fingers, she picked them up and tried to open the door again. Suddenly, a hand clasped over hers and she screamed. She whirled around, and thrust up her knee as hard as she could. The person was too quick and shifted so that her knee connected with his thigh. He grunted at the pain and stepped back.

Holly looked up into the brown eyes of Hunter Helmsley. She slumped against the car realizing she was safe.

“Lady, you are quick.” Hunter said approvingly. He pulled the keys from her lifeless fingers and unlocked the car door. “Thank God, I’m quicker.” he finished with a grin.

“Oh, Mr. Helmsley…”

“Hunter, please.” He said handing her keys back to her.

“Hunter, I am so sorry. I thought it was Er…someone else.”

“You mean, you thought it was Eric Bischoff?” Hunter said knowingly.

“You know?”

“Yep, and Mr. McMahon knows now too. He wants to see you tomorrow morning in his office. Be assured, he is not firing you. In fact, he was rather angry with Bischoff and Morley and fired them immediately.”

“I don’t know if that’s a good thing or not.” Holly said starting to calm down from her fright.

“I’m sorry I frightened you, Holly.” Hunter said staring down into her green eyes. She stared up mesmerized by Hunter’s handsome features.

“I’m just glad it was you and not…him.” Holly murmured.

Without warning, Hunter leaned down and pressed his lips to hers. Holly was taken by surprise. Unconsciously, she leaned into the kiss giving herself over totally to Hunter.

Hunter deepened the kiss for a moment. Slowly, he broke the kiss. They stood together for a long moment before he spoke softly.

“I shouldn’t have done that.” He murmured caressing her slender shoulders.

“:I don’t mind.” Holly answered softly her lips tingling from the soul-stirring kiss. “I guess I should get home.”

“Yeah.” Hunter said. “Holly, go out with me tomorrow after the show.” He asked taking her hand in his.

“I don’t know.” She murmured shyly.

“Please.”

Holly looked up into his brown eyes and melted. She smiled and nodded her head in the affirmative. Hunter grinned back in relief. He held the car door open for her. Just before she got in, he leaned over and kissed her again sliding his tongue over her lower lip.

“Good-night.”

“Good-night” She said sliding into the Mustang.

Hunter stood and watched as she pulled away wondering what had come over him to kiss her like that. Whatever it was, he was glad it happened. He strolled to his Hummer whistling a tuneless tune.

Holly arrived at the superstars’ entrance and found Hunter waiting for her. She smiled up at the wrestler as he took her hand in his and led her to the cafeteria. He bought them both waters and they sat down at a small table towards the back of the room.

“So, Holly, tell me about yourself.” Hunter suggested leaning forward on h is elbows.

“You want to know everything?” She asked grinning at the handsome man across from her.

“I find you a lovely, fascinating and very secretive woman. I am intrigued.” He said grinning back.

“I live with my parents. No sense in having a place when I am never home. They are pretty strict, even though I am of an age where I can think for myself. My brother is in the Air Force. He’s stationed at Fort Bliss in Texas. I have a dog named Biscuit. He’s a Newfoundland.” Holly stopped talking feeling a bit uneasy talking about herself. Hunter saw this and changed the subject.

“How did the meeting go with Vince this morning?” He asked taking a sip of water.

“It went all right. I just told Mr. McMahon what I knew and he said that Eric and Sean are banned from any arena where I am working. He said he really liked my work and I was worth the time and effort to keep me safe.” Once again, Holly found herself feeling uncomfortable talking about herself. “Your match was great tonight, Hunter….I, uh…” Her green eyes met his brown eyes and she stumbled in her speech and fell silent as they stared at each other.

Slowly, automatically, they leaned towards each other and their lips touched softly.

“That was nice.” Holly murmured her eyes still locked to Hunter’s.

“I agree.” Hunter answered with a gentle smile for the young woman across from him.. He reached over and took her hand in his. “I care very deeply for you, Holly.” He said softly caressing his thumb over the back of her slender hand.

“I care for you too.” Holly said shyly. As she spoke she looked up and saw Stephanie McMahon glaring at her and Hunter. Quickly, she jerked her hand from Hunter’s grasp and dropped her eyes to the table.

Hunter was taken aback. He paused and then looked over to where Holly had been looking. He scowled when he saw Stephanie standing there staring at them.

He turned back to Holly. He stood up and held out his hand to her. “Shall we go watch a couple of movies? I rented some this morning and never got a chance to watch them.” Hunter stated gently.

Holly looked up uncertainly. She was sure he would want to go be with Stephanie, but, no, he was asking her to his place to watch some rented movies. She bolstered up her courage and placed her hand in his.

“I would love to.” She answered with a bright smile at the man she was coming to love.

They left Holly’s Mustang in the parking garage and rode in Hunter’s Hummer to his apartment.

Holly was amazed at the warmness and beauty of the living room as they walked in. She also noticed that it was very neat and clean.

“I have a maid.” He chuckled somehow knowing what she was thinking.

Hunter turned on the TV and popped in a movie. Hunter told Holly it was “True Lies” with Arnold Schwarzenegger.

“Oh! I haven’t seen that one yet.” She said settling into the cushy sofa. She was pleased when Hunter came and sat down next to her…not too close, but not too far either.

As the movie progressed, Hunter moved closer and slid his arm across the back of the sofa. Holly grew bold and leaned into him just a bit. His arm slid down to rest gently on her shoulders. She leaned her head against his strong shoulder and they were comfortable.

Suddenly, Hunter leaned over and kissed her. He pulled back for a second to see Holly’s reaction. What he saw pleased him and he leaned in again for a more passionate kiss.

Unconsciously, Holly’s arms slid around his neck pulling him to her. Hunter’s arms slid around her and held her close.

Holly’s fingers entwined themselves in Hunter’s long, blond hair.. His arms tightened slightly as her fingertips grazed the sensitive flesh on his neck. He knew once and for all that this girl was the one he wanted to spend the rest of his life with.

He slowly and reluctantly drew back from Holly leaving her feeling cold and alone. She looked up into his eyes and felt the warmth and strength of his love…his love?

“I love you, Holly.” Hunter murmured softly.

“I love you, Hunter.” Holly answered.

“I’d ask you to marry me, but it’s too soon, for both of us.” He said caressing her cheek with gentle fingers. Holly nodded slowly. “I want you to move in with me though.”

“But we haven’t…I mean…there’s been no….” Holly stumbled over her words and embarrassment. She blushed and turned her face away from Hunter.

Hunter brought up his hand and turned her face to his. “I just want you with me, Holly. There will be no pressures of making love or anything of that kind. Just to hold you at night would be enough….for now.” He answered sincerely.

Holly gazed deep into his brown eyes and knew he was telling the truth. “Okay.” She said with a bright smile for the handsome wrestler.

“That means hotel rooms and everything, hon.” Hunter warned.

“Uh huh. I know.” She answered. She leaned forward and kissed him pressing him into the sofa. He was surprised, but he allowed her to have the upper hand…this time.
